About Me
It is natural to want to know more about your therapist. Read on to learn a little bit more about me and my experience, and the ways that I can help you.
Hi, I am Emma Wolford, LCSW-R. I use she/her/hers pronouns. The letters after my name mean that I am a clinical social worker licensed at the highest level (the “R” is given to those with at least six years of supervised experience). My career began in outpatient mental health. At that time, I learned a lot of expressive therapy techniques, including sandplay. These can be a helpful adjunct to more traditional “talk therapy” techniques. I also gained experience helping couples and families during this period.
For the past eleven years I have worked in college counseling centers, ten of which were as a college counseling center director. I also worked privately with students after graduation. It was working at the college level that I began specializing particularly in LGBTQ concerns (which broadly includes anything that a LGBTQ person might be dealing with as they move through the world, but also things like coming out). Most recently I have taken specialized training in gender identity and transition support through WPATH. I am dedicated to ongoing professional development throughout my career. I also have additional training in different techniques for treating emotional regulation and mood-related issues.
